Flag help 2025

At our meeting last week, we gave out $16,550 to organizations who helped us with our Holiday Flags program this year. Amounts are based on their level of participation. Thanks to all who made the program successful. We couldn't do it without you. At the end of the program w put up 2,886 flags! See attached photos for participants and amounts. Lions Meeting December 3

At last night's meeting Lion President Jake Green presented a program on his deployment to Afghanistan. Very interesting to hear from one of our own who had been there. Lion Secretary Geadelmann (photo right) installed 2 new members, Ray Starnes (left) and Brodie Sanders (center). Finally, we voted to purchase a new Iowa KidSight camera to replace our current obsolete model.

Adel Food Pantry

At our meeting Wednesday, the program featured Brandie Willson of the Adel Good Samaritan Food Pantry. She gave us a review of their past year activities and what their current needs are. An important need is for money to provide gift cards to folks for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. We normally donate $5,000 per year, but because of their immediate needs we voted to donate an additional $2,000 for the specific Thanksgiving needs.

Iowa DOT

Austin Yates or the Iowa DOT presented our club with information about traffic lights. How the need is determined, how they are programed, and who handles programming. This was presented at our request because many members were curious about the stop light situation in Adel and why you have to make numerous stops while driving on Hickman Road through Waukee.

Highway Cleanup

Saturday 9-27 members of the ADM FFA conducted a highway cleanup on US 6 east of town. Our club contributes funds to their organization in return for them conducting the cleanup of the portion assigned to our club.

Adel Pickleball Courts

New Pickleball courts dedicated tonight. We made a $70,000 donation to the City to make this project happen. Enjoy!

ADM Victory Bell

Tonight was the dedication of the new ADM Victory bell. Our club made a significant contribution to the purchase. Lions Jenkins and McAvoy got the honor of ringing it!

Eagle Scout Project

Scout Troup 152 member Josh Randol presented his Eagle Scout project to our club at our meeting 9/17. He plans to renew the outdoor reading area of the DeSoto Public Library, including building a wishing well. He needed an additional $350 to fully fund his project. Following his presentation, our club voted to donate the $350 he needs. Good luck, Josh.

Adel Museum

At our last meeting, Connie Cooper gave us a presentation about the Adel Museum. She showed us a few items stored there an explained the improvements made and those still needed. They need some funding to help with the additional needs. Following the meeting, we voted to donate $500 to their cause.

ADM Activities Donation

ADM Activities Director, Rod Wiebers, spoke at our meeting last week to give us an update on the coming year at ADM. Looks like we're on a roll! Following his presentations, we gave him our annual donations to both the ADM Boosters and ADM Fine Arts Boosters. Glad to continue to support them.

DeSoto Intermediate School Games

At our last meeting, Carole Erickson-Schepers presented information about a project at the DeSoto Intermediate School she is working on. They want to replace their iPads with various games when they have recess indoors. The games will promote interaction between the students that doesn't happen when iPads are used. Following her presentation, we voted to donate $1,000 to this worthy project!

A1C Diabetes Screening

Last Saturday, June 7th, our club offered free A1C diabetes screening with the help of Hy-Vee. A total of 16 residents took advantage of the offer. We hope we have helped those residents know if they may have diabetes. We are unable to provide results due to privacy laws. Only the people involved know their results.

National Leadership Conference

The speaker at our meeting last night was Chloe Meacham. Chloe currently serves on the ADM Student Council and is planning a trip to meet with other student council members for a national leadership conference. Our club voted to donate $250 to her to help fund the trip.
